We’re highlighting an important new development from Skylotec ActSafe: the introduction of a Secondary Lock for the ACX and RCX battery release mechanism.

This new component, officially item #BAUG-1060, has been designed to reduce the risk of batteries being accidentally released during use, offering an additional layer of protection for operators who rely on the Skylotec ACX Power Ascender in demanding environments.

What is the Skylotec ACX Battery Lock?

The secondary battery lock is a small but critical safety upgrade. It introduces a two-step action for battery removal, meaning that:

  • Accidental bumps or knocks can no longer cause the battery to release.
  • Operators must now perform two deliberate movements to disconnect the battery.
  • The lock provides an extra safeguard against unplanned power loss during ascent, descent, or load lifting.

This reduces operational risk and gives users extra confidence in their equipment especially when working at height where reliability is non-negotiable.

Retrofit and Compatibility

The best part? The new battery lock can be retrofitted to all currently active:

  • Skylotec ACX
  • Skylotec RCX
  • Skylotec TCX

This ensures both existing fleets and new purchases can benefit from the improved safety mechanism.

From 19th September 2025, all new Skylotec ACX machines will leave the factory with the lock pre-installed and CE1073 certification. For older models, fitting the lock during servicing will ensure they remain compliant with future inspection requirements.

Installation and Servicing

The installation process involves mounting the secondary lock base to the rear of the ascender housing, fitting the spring-loaded slider, and performing a functional check to confirm correct reset behaviour.

Because this modification is safety-critical, Skylotec recommends installation is carried out by ActSafe Level 2 service partners, such as the accredited team here at REAX.

As the UK service agent for Skylotec ActSafe, we can ensure correct installation during scheduled servicing, alongside your routine inspection and LOLER compliance checks.

Why This Matters for ACX Owners

If you already operate ACX or RCX units, upgrading to include the battery lock should be considered a priority safety measure. The benefits include:

  • Improved safety compliance: future inspections for CE1073 units will require this lock.
  • Reduced downtime: avoids potential battery dislodgement during operation.
  • Peace of mind: reassurance for teams working in challenging, high-risk conditions.
