Working at Height

REAX is a Blackpool based training facility, providing working at height training and other health and safety training courses to workers, rescuers, managers, and groups of employees. We offer a dedicated and fully equipped training space, and we are fully compliant and accredited so you can be assured that you are getting the best training for your money.

Falls from height are still the biggest cause of deaths at work, having been responsible for 28% of all fatal accidents between 2012 and 2017. Working at height accidents include falling from height or falling through a fragile surface. Accidents can also cause injury to other parties, but through the proper use of safety equipment, best working practices, and the implementation of an emergency recovery plan, it is possible to minimise accidents and eliminate injuries caused by working at height.

Our working at heights training courses empower your employees with the knowledge needed to avoid accidents. Workers can learn to recognise potential height hazards, will be taught the best safety equipment to use, and we also offer recovery and rescue training which will prove invaluable if the worst does happen.

What Is Working At Height Training?

Working at height training teaches everything that workers need to know in order to work safely at elevated heights. Falls from height accounted for 28% of all fatal injuries in the workplace between 2012 and 2017. This worked out to be around 38 deaths per year, and while the majority of these deaths were in the construction industry, such accidents can occur in warehouses and are commonplace in agriculture, forestry, and manufacturing.

Unfortunately, in most cases, these deaths and major injuries could have been prevented through effective and regular training.

Training courses will teach workers to identify height hazards. They will be taught when they should use safety equipment like lanyards and harnesses, and how to properly use the equipment. They will also learn best practices, how to mitigate for heights, and they will also be shown what actions should be taken if an accident does occur. Specialist disaster and recovery training is also offered, providing rescue operators with the knowledge and skills they need in order to be able to help minimise injuries caused by accidents at height.

Who Should Take The Training?

Anybody that works at height should be properly trained. This may include individual employees, as well as rescuers, supervisors, and managers. If there are people working at elevated positions on site, then training can also be given to other workers to help prevent causing accidents. Managers and supervisors need training so that they can ensure their team members are safe, but also because they may need to access the same elevated positions.

Relevant Regulations

As well as the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, working at height is also covered under the Working at Height Regulations 2005, often referred to as WAHR. These regulations recognise that there is a risk of falling from heights and that such falls can cause major injuries and death. The regulations cover any type of work conducted, how long the individual is at height, and even the height at which the work is undertaken.

A failure to comply with the regulations, and to ensure that your employees work in a safe and controlled environment with the appropriate training, could lead to legal action being taken against your company, and even its directors, in the event of an accident.
