High Risk Confined Space Training 6150-03

Recommended for

All persons who are required to work in an environment where it is necessary to enter the space using Self Contained Breathing Apparatus or Air-line equipment. Where entry to the space is non-standard and will require specialised equipment to gain access. This course is also available for accreditation in conjunction with City & Guilds 6150 Confined Space qualification.

Course Objective

To enable the candidate to hold a good understanding of the requirements and procedures to gain entry to High Risk Spaces. To become fully competent with SCBA and Escape BA sets along with the requirements for using Air-line equipment. This includes all the after use and general checking of the apparatus.

Course Content

Confined Space Legislation and the classification of the space.
Hazards found within Confined Spaces.
Safe systems of work to enter High Risk Spaces.
Fall Protection systems and methods.
Use of Gas monitoring equipment and atmosphere testing.
Breathing apparatus set construction.
Use of Breathing Apparatus Escape sets.
Use of full Self Contained Breathing Apparatus.
Use of Breathing Apparatus Air-line equipment.
Permit entry control systems.

Skill Base

To be able to recognise the classification of the space and implement systems accordingly.
To be able to identify all hazards regarding the space.
To be able to carry out Risk Assessments prior to entering the space.
To understand and use Permit Entry Control systems.
Understand how to gas monitor the space prior to entry.
To become competent in the use of Breathing Apparatus Escape equipment.
To become competent in the use of full Self Contained Breathing Apparatus.
To become competent in the use of full Breathing Apparatus Air-line equipment.
To undertake full after use and general checks on all the Breathing Apparatus equipment.

Course Requirements

Candidates must be able to work in dark restricted areas safely and unaided. Candidates must be able to identify, enter and withdraw from risk areas in accordance with the Confined Space Regulations 1997.
Candidates must be clean shaven to ensure that a face seal is achieved.

Medical Requirements

A Reax statement of medical fitness to be signed prior to the commencement of the course. A reasonable level of fitness will be required to complete the practical element of this course. All candidates should not suffer with claustrophobic issues.
