Award in Direct Emergency Rescue and Recovery of Casualties – City & Guilds (6160-07)

This unit is for anyone who directs the activities of a team for rescue or recovery within a confined space. This may include rescue team leader, coordinator, entry controller / top person or supervisor in relation to the rescue and recovery of casualties from a confined space.

The course will cover planning and preparing for emergency operations, mobilising rescue teams, directing and monitoring rescue activities and reporting and securing sites following an incident or emergency.

The course will look at the best use of rescue equipment and methods to employ during an emergency.

The assessment will consist of a practical observation during a team exercise and a short answer question paper.

Pre-entry requirements – All persons taking this qualification must have successfully completed and hold current certificate for the 6160-03 Confined space High Risk course and the 6160-08 Member of a Rescue and Recovery Team in Confined Spaces.

Who Needs This Course?

  • Course duration – 1 day
  • Recertification period – 3 years

The course lasts 2 days and is valid for a period of 3 years. Participants will need to retrain within that period to ensure that they meet legislation.

Participant Requirements

  • Participants will be required to undergo some physical exertion
  • All persons taking this qualification must have successfully completed and hold current certificate for
    – the 6160-03 Confined space High Risk course, and
    – the 6160-08 Member of a Rescue and Recovery Team in Confined Spaces
  • Students should not suffer from claustrophobia
  • Students must sign a medical form before commencement

In order to safely take part in the training, all candidates must be able to work in a dark space without aid or assistance. It will also be necessary for any candidate to sign a medical release form, stating that they are medically fit to be able to complete the work. Candidates should not suffer from claustrophobia, because they may be required to work in tight and confined areas.
